Tips to Get Your Home Guest-Ready for the Holidays

The holiday season is a time for hosting family and friends, and creating a warm, welcoming space in your Grand Forks ND homes. As well as making sure your home is decorated, make sure essentials are easily at hand for your guests to ensure everyone feels at home.

Before decorating, start with a clean slate. Focus on cleaning high-traffic areas like the entryway, living room, kitchen, and bathrooms. Declutter countertops, organize common spaces, and ensure guest rooms are tidy. A sparkling-clean home sets a welcoming tone and makes decorating easier.

If you have overnight guests, ensure their room is comfortable. Provide fresh linens, extra pillows, blankets, and towels. Thoughtful extras like water bottles, a reading lamp, a charging station, and even a small gift basket of necessary and fun toiletries can make their stay more convenient. Even if you don’t make up a basket, be sure to stock essential toiletries like a new toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, hand towels, and tissues. Adding a small vase of fresh flowers or a holiday decoration can add a special touch, as well.

As you start to decorate, remember that the entryway is your guests’ first impression. Add a festive wreath, clear space for coats and shoes, set out a festive container for keys, and consider a holiday welcome mat. Layer your home with cozy elements like throw blankets, soft pillows, and seasonal accents. Add festive touches such as candles, string lights, or a holiday-scented diffuser to create a warm ambiance. Opt for scents like cinnamon, pine, or vanilla for a seasonal aroma.

Inevitably, everyone will end up in the kitchen at some point, as it’s typically the household hub. Be sure to organize your pantry and stock up on snacks, and beverages, and other items that guests can feel free to enjoy. If possible, create a coffee station and even a drinks cart to make it easier for your guests to feel at home and take some of the work off your hands, as well.

Create a festive dining table setting, while still ensuring space for serving plates and bowls. Personalized place settings as a special touch.

For the main gathering area, make sure you have enough seating for everyone. Add in some fresh greenery such as evergreens or eucalyptus for a festive look and aroma, draping it along the mantel or other tables and cabinets.

By following these tips, you’ll create a space that’s both functional and festive, ensuring your guests feel comfortable and appreciated throughout the holiday season.
